Visa and Mastercard team up to launch major new stablecoin | News. az

In a massive move for the digital asset landscape, global payments giants Visa and Mastercard have joined forces with crypto heavyweights to launch a groundbreaking new stablecoin. Partnering alongside Coinbase and a massive consortium of over 140 businesses under the banner "Open Standard," the alliance has unveiled Open USD—a new U. S. dollar-pegged token scheduled to go live later this year. The initiative marks a major corporate push to finally transition stablecoins from speculative trading tools into mainstream global commerce. The Open Standard network aims to solve the scalability, cost, and throughput bottlenecks that have historically stopped large enterprises from adopting digital currency. To incentivize mass adoption, the platform will allow businesses to mint and redeem Open USD with zero volume limits and zero fees. Furthermore, the consortium is introducing a unique shared-economics model, promising to distribute the yield generated from Open USD’s underlying reserves directly back to its network partners,News. Azreports, citingReuters. This coordinated launch arrives in a rapidly maturing regulatory environment, following the passage of the U. S. GENIUS Act, which established the first clear federal guidelines for stablecoin usage.
