- Advertisement -USD1 stablecoin supply peaked near $5. 3 billion during the first half of 2026. Binance now settles Bitcoin and Ethereum perpetual futures directly in USD1. The OCC charter decision, reported as imminent in June, is still pending. WLFI trades near $0. 058, still inside the range set after May’s crash. World Liberty Financial pushed USD1, its dollar-backed stablecoin, to a peak circulating supply of $5. 3 billion this year, landed it as a direct settlement asset on Binance’s Bitcoin and Ethereum perpetual futures markets, and moved anational trust bank charter applicationthrough review at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. WLFI, the governance token that funded the project through $550 million in token sales, spent the same stretch consolidating near $0. 058, still well below the highs it touched after going public in September 2025. The stablecoin and the token are increasingly trading on separate timelines. Traders could hold it, but opening a position meant borrowing USDT against it first. That changed May 18, when Binance launched aBTC/USD1 perpetualwith leverage up to 100x, letting profits, losses, and funding payments settle directly in USD1. Ethereum followed July 3 on the same terms, and on July 20 Binance listed aSpaceX equity perpetual that also settles in USD1, its first move into equity-referenced derivatives. Collateral sits passively in an account. A settlement asset gets used every time a position closes, which means trading volume itself starts generating turnover in USD1 rather than USDT. Regulators and institutional counterparties weigh exactly that when judging whether a stablecoin has utility beyond speculation, and it is a different growth driver than the retail demand that built Tether. Binance extended the relationship again on July 24,opening flexible Earn products denominated in USD1at rates up to 8. 5%, capped at 1,500 USD1 per user. Yield products pull a stablecoin out of the trading loop entirely and into the savings side of the exchange, which is a slower but stickier form of demand than settlement volume. Why a National Trust Charter Would Cut BitGo Out of the LoopUSD1 currently runs through BitGo as custodian and issuer. In January, a World Liberty subsidiary, WLTC Holdings LLC, filed with the OCC to charter World Liberty Trust Company, which would hold issuance, custody, and redemption in-house instead. The filing followed the OCC’s conditional approval of trust charters for Circle, Ripple, Paxos, BitGo, and Fidelity Digital Assets in December, opening the door for stablecoin issuers to become their own regulated custodians. If granted, the charter lets World Liberty clear USD1 transactions under one federal regulator instead of a patchwork of state licenses, and removes a layer of counterparty risk between issuer and custodian. The application has drawn scrutiny because OCC Comptroller Jonathan Gould was appointed by a president who remains World Liberty’s co-founder emeritus. At aFebruary Senate Banking Committee hearing, Senator Elizabeth Warren pressed him on whether the application disclosed the reported 49% UAE stake, since OCC rules require applicants to name every shareholder holding 10% or more, and Gould said he would consider sharing the unredacted filing with her and Chairman Tim Scott. He has otherwise declined to discuss specifics, saying charter applications are processed on a nonpartisan basis. The decision itself has been sitting longer than expected. NOTUS reportedon June 16 that Gould was preparing to rule within days, citing two former OCC staffers who described approval as close to certain and rejection as inconceivable. As of July 24 the application isstill listed as pendingon the OCC’s own digital assets licensing table, five weeks after the ruling was said to be imminent, which leaves the most consequential piece of World Liberty’s stablecoin strategy waiting on a regulator whose timing nobody outside the agency can explain. Apex Group and a White House UFC Card Push USD1 Into New CornersWorld Liberty also partnered withApex Group,a fund administrator operating in 52 countries with roughly $3. 5 trillion in client assets, to explore using USD1 for subscriptions, distributions, and redemptions on tokenized funds, a settlement-heavy use case far removed from trading. Fund administration is where that pitch has teeth. Subscriptions and redemptions on traditional funds move through correspondent banks on cycles measured in days, with cut-off times, weekend gaps, and reconciliation work at every hop. Apex services over $3. 5 trillion in assets across 52 countries, so even a modest reduction in settlement lag compounds across an enormous book. Whether USD1 specifically wins that business is a separate question from whether the use case is real. The more visible moment came at UFC Freedom 250 on the White House South Lawn June 14, where World Liberty sponsored a$250,000 Performance of the Night bonuspool paid in USD1. The sponsorship landed alongside aReuters investigationestimating the Trump family earned roughly $2. 3 billion across four crypto ventures while more than a million investors in those ventures absorbed about the same amount in losses, roughly $674 million of it in WLFI itself. Separately, World Liberty’s own disclosures show 75% of WLFI token sale proceeds flowing to a Trump-controlled entity, DT Marks DEFI LLC. The WLFI Chart Still Hasn’t Escaped the May CrashWLFI dropped from $0. 0763 in early May to $0. 0507 within days, then spent three months chopping between two Fibonacci levels of that move: the 38. 2% line at $0. 0605 and the 23. 6% line at $0. 0567. Those levels mark price points from the prior swing where buyers and sellers have historically reacted. The token last closed at $0. 058, up almost 2% over the past week even after wicking to $0. 0561 intraday and getting bought back above the 23. 6% line, a small tell that buyers are defending that specific level. The 50-day moving average sits at $0. 0593 and still slopes down, with price below it, so the broader trend stays bearish even as the week’s bounce shows local support holding. RSI sits near 48, just under the neutral 50 mark, consistent with a market that’s undecided rather than building toward a breakout. The heaviest day on the six-month chart lines up with the May crash, and turnover has faded since, with only a modest uptick on the recent green candles. A daily close above $0. 0605 would be the first sign this range is ready to resolve upward, with $0. 0635 and $0. 0665 next. A close below $0. 0567 puts the May low of $0. 0507 back on the table. Solana Growth and In-House Custody Are the Bigger SignalThat chart is the smaller story next to what World Liberty is building around USD1 – native deployments expanding across Solana, where WhaleFactor puts USD1’s market cap growth this year at roughly $115 million to over $1 billion, plus Aptos and Monad, while WLFI Markets pushes to make USD1 usable directly as loan collateral. Add a trust charter that would let the company issue, custody, and redeem the coin without routing through BitGo, and the pattern is a project trying to control every layer of its own stablecoin instead of renting infrastructure from someone else. DefiLlama’s public trackerputs USD1’s current circulating supply in the same range, well inside the top ten dollar-backed stablecoins. Approval would hand World Liberty a regulatory position most stablecoin issuers do not have, and it is the one pending catalyst capable of reconnecting WLFI’s price to USD1’s growth after a year of the two moving independently. The longer Gould’s silence runs past the timeline his own former staff described, tthe harder it becomes to read the delay as routine. Conflict-of-interest details in this article draw on published investigations by Reuters and NOTUS. Coindoo does not hold a position in WLFI or USD1.
