SHIB Exchange Reserve Drops 50% and Price Fell the Whole Way Altcoin News ETHNews

- Advertisement -Shiba Inu balances on centralized exchanges have dropped to 87. 3 trillion tokens. Falling reserves have not produced buying pressure at any point in that decline. The late-July volume spike was sold into rather than built on. A daily close under $0. 00000404 breaks the base that has held since June. Shiba Inu trades at $0. 00000446 on Binance as of August 17, down 1% on the day and roughly 95% below its October 2021 record. CryptoQuant data puts the amount of SHIB sitting on centralized exchanges at 87. 3 trillion tokens, down from roughly 175 trillion in late 2023 and about 140 trillion in December 2024. Half the exchange-held supply has left in under two years. Price fell the entire way down alongside it. That is the part worth sitting with. Shrinking exchange reserves get filed under bullish almost automatically, on the logic that coins in private custody are coins nobody is selling. SHIB has run that experiment for twenty months and the answer is no. Late 2023175T≈ $0. 0000080Dec 2024140T≈ $0. 0000250Sep 202595T≈ $0. 0000120Aug 202687. 3T$0. 00000446Source: CryptoQuant, Binance. Reserve figures rounded. One January drop does most of the workThe reserve charthas a feature that complicates any clean reading. In early January 2025 the balance collapsed from roughly 140 trillion to under 110 trillion in what looks like a single step rather than a slope. Drops shaped like that are rarely thousands of retail holders self-custodying on the same afternoon. They are usually an exchange reshuffling wallets, a labelling change on the data provider’s side, or one very large entity relocating. Everything after is a slower grind – 110 trillion through spring 2025, 95 trillion by autumn, a flat drift into the high 80s across 2026. Strip the January step out and the trend still points down. It just stops being dramatic. Absent sellers are not buyersReserve depletion supports price only when demand holds steady and the removed supply genuinely goes dormant. Neither applies here. SHIB’s holder base skews heavily toward 2021 entrants who are deeply underwater. Someone sitting on a 94% loss who moves tokens to a hardware wallet has not become a buyer. He has become an absent seller, which is a far weaker thing. Supply leaves the order book, no new capital arrives to compete for what remains, and price drifts on thin participation. Theseven-day net-inflowmean currently reads 1. 1 billion tokens, near the bottom of a range that has held since 2023. There was one enormous December 2025 spike clearing 25 billion, a vertical bar dwarfing everything around it, and price broke down through the months that followed. Recent inflow has ticked up to roughly 5 billion after the July volume event – small, but pointed the wrong way for anyone treating the reserve exodus as permanent. Inflow spikes cluster around price breakdowns, not price bottoms. The candle that built the ceilingPrice has been in a downtrend since the early-May high near $0. 00000660, finding a floor at $0. 00000404 in late June. That low anchors the Fibonacci grid drawn from the May top, and since mid-June the tape has chopped between $0. 00000404 and roughly $0. 00000480 with one violent interruption. Technical analysis by Alexander Stefanov (@alexandertradenews on TradingView). That interruption arrived in the last week of July. A single daily candle pushed to $0. 00000538 intraday, precisely the 0. 5 retracement, on volume roughly four times the surrounding average. It closed well off the highs and gave the whole move back over the following sessions. Volume that size failing to hold its gains is someone using liquidity to exit, not someone building. The wick has capped every attempt higher since. Four months on from the top, SHIB has not recovered even a quarter of its decline. Levels from top to bottom$0. 00000569– fib 0. 618. Reclaiming it would mark a real trend change. $0. 00000538– fib 0. 5. The July spike high, untested since. $0. 00000506– fib 0. 382. Where the early-August bounce stalled. $0. 00000467– fib 0. 236 and SMA 20 stacked. The immediate ceiling. $0. 00000446– current price, sitting on the flat SMA 50 at $0. 00000447. $0. 00000404– the June and July floor, defended every test. Two averages, 4% apart, and nothing to tradeThe 50-day and 20-day simple moving averages have converged onto price at $0. 00000447 and $0. 00000466. The 50 flattened in July after months of decline. The 20 curled up through the spike and rolled over again in August. Two averages that close with price wedged between them is not a direction. What it signals is that a volatility expansion is nearer than it was a month ago, because averages do not stay wound this tightly for long. RSI reads 45. 41 against a 48. 97 signal line – below the midline, below signal, drifting. It spiked toward 78 on the July candle and has bled out since, meaning the momentum behind that move was borrowed for one session and returned in full. No divergence either way. Volume backs it: the last ten sessions run well below the July average with buying and selling roughly balanced. Where the break decides it$0. 00000404 is the line. Tested and defended repeatedly since late June, it doubles as the Fibonacci anchor, and a daily close beneath it invalidates the whole two-month base with no meaningful structure underneath until well below $0. 00000400. On the other side, bulls need a daily close above the $0. 00000467 cluster on real volume before $0. 00000506 becomes realistic. The bearish case is stronger on evidence. The May downtrend is intact, the July spike was sold hard, and price cannot hold even the shallowest retracement. The bullish case rests entirely on that floor. What neither chart shows is the burn mechanism, which is supposed to be the other half of the supply story. Shibburn dataputs 24-hour burns near 950,000 tokens against a circulating supply of 585. 65 trillion – a fraction so small it does not register at four decimal places. The cumulative number is more impressive and no more useful: 410. 84 trillion tokens destroyed since launch, 41. 08% of the original quadrillion, over a period in which price lost 95%. Supply reduction has been running for years through both the reserve drain and the burn contract, and neither has moved the tape. That is the argument anyone bullish on SHIB has to answer.
