Bitcoin traded near $64,500 and pushed to reclaim the $65,000 line once the decision landed. Treasury yields rose across the curve, a sign bond traders still expect tighter policy ahead. On-chain data shows large wallets accumulating through the correction while retail demand cools. The Federal Reserveheld its benchmark rate steady on Wednesday, keeping the target range at 3. 5% to 3. 75%, and crypto markets read the decision as a reprieve. Bitcoin climbed back toward $64,500 within the hour, and green returned to most of the large-cap board. The vote was not unanimous. Three members of the Federal Open Market Committee wanted to raise rates now, a split that suggests the next move, whenever it comes, is more likely a hike than a cut. A hold that three officials voted againstThe 9 to 3 split is the story here. Beth Hammack, Neel Kashkari and Lorie Logan all voted to raise the target range by a quarter point at this meeting, putting them at odds with the majority that preferred to wait. Going into the announcement, traders were not fully convinced the Fed would sit still. CME FedWatch had priced roughly a 40% probability of a hike, which is why the hold produced a small bid across risk assets once it landed. The statement itself leaned firm. The Committee described economic activity as expanding at a solid pace and called productivity growth and capital investment strong, while noting that job gains have kept pace with the workforce. It also flagged that inflation stays above the 2% goal and pinned part of that pressure on supply shocks in sectors like energy. The line that carried the most weight was short: the Committee will deliver price stability. Why bond yields climbed even as the Fed stood patTreasury yields did not behave like the Fed had gone soft. The 2-year yield, the tenor most sensitive to rate expectations, rose to 4. 31% . The 10-year climbed to 4. 63% and the 30-year pushed past 5. 11%, all higher on the session. When yields move up after a hold, it usually means the bond market is pricing in tighter policy or stickier inflation down the road, and that is the read here. Higher yields raise the return on holding cash and government debt, which works against a rally in crypto and equities. So the fact that crypto held its ground anyway says more than the small bounce itself. Santiment data shows wallets holding between 10 and 10,000 BTCadded 19,696 coins over the past eight days, the cohort it labels sharks and whales. At the other end, the smallest wallets, those under 0. 01 BTC, have slowed their dip-buying, which Santiment reads as late retail interest fading rather than a warning sign. 🐳 Bitcoin’s key stakeholders are accumulating. Wallets holding 10 to 10K BTC added 19,696 BTC in just the past 8 days. 🧊 Micro retail demand is cooling. Sub-0. 01 BTC wallets are showing less dip-buying urgency, which often means late retail noise is fading. 📈 This…pic. twitter. com/Vr8XyLuNfK— Santiment Intelligence (@SantimentData)July 27, 2026CryptoQuant analyst Woo Minkyu noted that in a normal capitulation, coins flood onto exchanges to be sold, yet the dominant pattern through this correction has been the reverse, withholders pulling Bitcoin off exchanges into self-custody. Exchange reserves have drifted lower across the last six months. Coins leaving exchanges generally signal an intent to hold rather than sell. Bitcoin has to reclaim $65,000 to prove the bounce is realBitcoin spent Wednesday defending the $63,700 area, a level marked on the hourly chart that has held on each dip this week. The token bottomed near $63,000 on July 28 before buyers stepped back in, and by the afternoon it was changing hands around $64,500. The round number to watch overhead is $65,000, a level Bitcoin lost during the pullback from its July 27 high near $65,600. If buyers can push back above $65,000, the top of the recent range comes back into view. Until they do, Bitcoin stays stuck between that level and the $63,700 floor. Ethereum traded near $1,930, XRP held $1. 08, and the broader large-cap board leaned green on the day while still nursing weekly losses. What to watch before the September meetingThe reprieve may not last long. The Committee’s preferred inflation gauge is the PCE price index, and expectations that it firms in the coming prints are what keep a September hike on the table, particularly with the three dissenters already on record wanting one now. By the day of the decision, CME FedWatch alreadyput the odds of at least a quarter-point hike in September at 71. 9%,against 28. 1% for another hold and virtually no chance of a cut. Energy is the wildcard the Fed named directly. Tension in the Middle East and the risk of disruption around the Strait of Hormuz feed straight into oil prices, and any fresh supply shock there would push the inflation math back toward another increase. For crypto, the setup is a market that got the outcome it wanted this month while the conditions that produced three hawkish votes have not gone away. The next PCE release and the September meeting will decide whether Wednesday’s bounce was the start of something or a pause before the Fed tightens again.
